Winona discharges steel coils

Two ships are expected today that have never visited the Twin Ports. The S. Pacific will be here to load durum wheat for Algeria and the BBC Singapore will be here to load bentonite for Venezuela. The Kwintebank likely arrived last night, also to load bentonite. That would leave the BBC Singapore waiting at anchor until the Kwintebank finishes, probably late tonight. Meanwhile, the Winona will be here with steel coils to discharge before loading durum wheat for Algeria. Above, the Winona was also discharging steel coils here last October.

Winona here

A ship called the Vermontborg was built in Romania in 2003. In early January, 2004, it was being towed to the Netherlands to go into service when the tow line broke. The ship was grounded on rocks off an English island called Guernsey, in the English Channel just off the coast of France. Freed 15 days later, it was brought to a shipyard in the Netherlands but was sold to a German company and renamed the Winona. The Winona will be here today to discharge steel coils before loading grain for Europe. The Winona made two trips here last year.
