The versatile Tim S. Dool

2016-1004-9067
Above, the Tim S. Dool was loading wheat this morning (October 4, 2016) at Riverland Ag, formerly the Cargill elevator, in Duluth.  She carries a variety of cargos, including iron ore pellets, cement and grain. She arrived here October 1 to discharge cement at Holcim. She then went out into the Lake to wash out her cargo holds before coming back in to load the wheat at Riverland. She was here 4 times in May to load iron ore pellets at BNSF. On one of those trips she brought in cement for Holcim. In June, they came in 4 times to load iron ore pellets and again, bringing cement in once to discharge before loading the pellets. She was here twice in September to load iron ore pellets at the BNSF. Before 2015, she only made a couple trips here a year but she was here 10 times last season; this is her 15 trip this year.

Tim and Lee brighten up a dull day

The Lee A. Tregurtha arrived Duluth this afternoon (November 30, 2015) at 2:00 (above). It was her 16th trip here this season; she made 22 trips last year. She loaded iron ore pellets at the CN Dock in West Duluth on most of her trips this season. She loaded pellets at the BN dock once, on May 15. Twice she brought limestone in before going to CN and at least once went to Silver Bay to load pellets. Below, the Tim S. Dool departed a half hour later after discharging cement at the Holcim dock, a task she accomplished on 8 other trips this season. She was here to load iron ore pellets twice this season, once at BN and once at CN in Duluth.

Dool today, Fraserborg yesterday

The Tim S. Dool came in this afternoon (May 20, 2015) with cement to discharge at the Holcim dock in Duluth. Yesterday, the Dutch flagged Fraserborg arrived (below) to load grain. The Fraserborg is making her third trip here; she was here twice in 2011. The Dool was here many times as the Algoville; she was renamed to the Tim S. Dool in 2008 after Dool retired from his position as President and CEO of Algoma Central Corp. Since then she has made 11 trips to the Twin Ports.

That’s the Tim S. Dool loading grain on July 8, 2013 at the Riverland Ag dock in Duluth, formerly known as Cargill. These are two more unique photos from my new good friend John Zywicki, who obviously works over there and has a really nice eye for picture composition.
