Frantz will load wheat for Buffalo

The Joseph H. Frantz will be here today loading wheat for flour mills in Buffalo. It replaces the Kinsman Independent which worked the same route for many years before it was recently decommissioned. The Frantz has a self unloader on its deck (above) that greatly increases its efficiency as opposed to the strait decked Kinsman Independent. Photo taken May 20, 2003.

Joseph H. Frantz

Built in 1924, the Joseph H. Frantz sat out the shipping season two years ago, and some thought it might spell the end. The Kinsman Independent had been coming here for years, carrying wheat from Midwest farms to flour mills in Buffalo, New York. When it was decommissioned, the Frantz was brought in to replace it.
