Algoma Equinox here to load grain

2016-0623-6972
The Algoma Equinox was built in China in 2013. She arrived Duluth this morning, June 23, 2016 at 4:07 to load grain at Riverland Ag. Picture above taken this morning; the two below were taken by John Zywicki, also this morning. This is her 9th trip to the Twin Ports. She usually has loaded iron ore pellets at the BNSF in Superior; she did load grain, as today, on a visit in September, 2015.

Sea Bear in Duluth in the morning

20140723_072007_Richtone-johnzywicki-july23-2014
When the boat traffic is down, it is great to have a friend like John Zywicki who has a keen eye for beautiful pictures. Here, on July 23, 2014, he was standing behind the pilot boat, Sea Bear, operated by Sea Service, LLC in Superior. That’s the General Mills A mill on the left. The Duluth Aerial Lift Bridge is seen in the distance on the right. Click for larger version.

American Mariner here for grain.

John Zywicki took this picture this  morning (May 14, 2014) while the American Mariner was loading grain at Duluth Storage, formerly the Cargill Elevator. She arrived early this morning for her first trip to the Twin Ports this season. Her self unloader is up and moved to the side so the grain loader can access her cargo holds.

The Canadian flagged Cuyahoga arrived in Duluth (above) on December 23, 2013 with grain that she discharged at the Riverland Ag terminal in Duluth (below). This is only her 3rd trip here since 1996. She was here in 2004 to load iron ore pellets and in September, 2011, she discharged salt here. The picture above was taken by Terry White; the picture below was taken at the Riverland Ag dock by John Zywicki.

johnziwickiMiedwie20130913_074414The Miedwie ended her maiden voyage in Duluth in September, 2010, loading a cargo of wheat for Belgium. She was back for more grain in December, was here twice the next year and once in 2012. This is her first visit this season; she is loading spring wheat at the Riverland Ag dock, formerly Cargill, in Duluth. The Polish owned and crewed ship will leave next week for Barcelona, Spain. These beautiful pictures were taken by John Zywicki. (click each for larger versions)

Algowood brings wheat to Duluth

algowood20130823_192808The Canadian flagged Algowood arrived in the Twin Ports on August 23rd, 2013 with a cargo of wheat loaded in Hamilton, Ontario. After discharging the wheat at the Riverland Dock in Duluth (previously owned by Cargill), the boat picked up fuel at Calumet fuel dock and  went to the BN dock in Superior to load iron ore pellets.

These photos were taken by John Zywicki  who was working on the boat at Riverland. (Click on each photo for a larger version.)

That’s the Tim S. Dool loading grain on July 8, 2013 at the Riverland Ag dock in Duluth, formerly known as Cargill. These are two more unique photos from my new good friend John Zywicki, who obviously works over there and has a really nice eye for picture composition.

Jackson to Riverland for grain

herbertcjackson20130621_9228I woke up this morning (Friday, June 21, 2013) and thought I saw the Herbert C. Jackson backing down the Duluth harbor toward the Duluth Aerial Lift Bridge. I also noticed that the bridge was not going up. I later found out the Jackson came into port at 5:27 in the morning and went to the Calumet Fuel dock for fuel. Her destination was the Riverland Ag grain terminal (formerly Cargill) which she passed on her way to the fuel dock. What I saw was her backing down the harbor from the fuel dock so she could turn into the Riverland Ag (above) to load grain.

A while later, I took the  picture above of her at the dock. Later still, I received this picture (below) from John Zywicki who works at Riverland Ag, a view not many of us have seen before.
