The Eider is owned by the Paradou Shipping Company, located in Hong Kong. Along with other of their ships, she is under charter to Canadian Forest Navigation. They like their ships to be named after ducks. Many of their other ‘bird’ ships have visited Duluth in the past, including the Redhead, Gadwall and Garganey. (She is very similar to these other boats down to her distinct green color. ) The eider (the duck) breeds in cooler areas of the Northern hemisphere. The feathers, known as down feathers, are used to make pillows and quilts, particularly a quilt known as an eiderdown. On her first trip to the Twin Ports, in June, 2015, she will bring industrial grade pipe she loaded in Greece and will discharge at the Port Terminal.
