The Federal Power enters the Duluth ship canalThe Federal Power was here in June, 2011 for the 4th time since she was built in 2000. She made two trips in 2007, loading chromium ore on the first one and getting grain on the second trip in June. She actually loaded distiller’s dried grains with solubles (DDGS), a byproduct of the ethanol production process.
The Federal Power goes under the Duluth Aerial Lift Bridge in June, 2007DDGS is a cargo rarely loaded in the Twin Ports, although that was the 2nd shipment that went out in 2007. In the US, we produce about 3.2 million tons of it annually and ship about 700,000 tons to Europe where it is used for animal feed. In August, 2010, she returned to load grain at CHS 2 in Superior. In June, 2011, she is bringing wind turbine parts. Fifteen nacelles will be discharged and taken to a North Dakota wind farm. Going to an Iowa wind farm will be 83 power units and 150 containers.

Comments

  1. One of the photos is dated January 2007. Was the Federal Power really here that late in the season?

  2. The Adriaticborg will be bring wind turbine parts on Thursday or later. The Federal Power was loading grain but departed earlier this evening

  3. That is interesting that the Federal Power is bringing wind turbine parts that will come here in Iowa. Most wind generator sites here are owned by power companies in Florida and that is where the generated electricity goes.
