In October, 2003, my former Coast Guard husband and I went to a reunion of the CG in Marinette and walked down to the shipyard where the Alder was almost finished being built, and we were offered a private tour of the ship all the way up to the bridge! He told us she would be skippered by a female. It was a fantastic experience and the officer was very informative (wish I could remember his name)! That was before security was so tight, and we didn’t have to show any identification. My husband just had his CG hat on!

I would love to see a ship enter the water like that. Holly- that would be an awsome sight.
