On Saturday morning at 7:36, The cruise ship Grande Mariner paid a return trip to Duluth on Saturday morning, July 27, 2013. She usually docks behind the DECC but with Tall Ships everywhere, the cruise ship found some space at the Lakehead Marina on Park Point. Passengers got off the ship soon after arriving; a new group of passengers will board the ship and depart on Wednesday (above, July 31, 2013). The Grande Mariner was built in 1998 and is 183 feet long. She can carry 100 passengers. Her home port is Warren, Rhode Island. Despite the cost of around $2,000 for an 8-day cruise on the Great Lakes, she is a ‘comfortable’ ship. Walk aboard the Grande Mariner and you are immediately in the ‘big room,’ the only big room. But it is a nice room. On a visit to the ship several years ago, I felt right at home right away. When you walk up one flight of stairs, you are on the top floor.
