20111028_6342The Algomarine was built in 1968 as the Lake Manitoba and was part of a fleet of boats that included the Algonorth and the Capt. Henry Jackman. Algoma Central purchased the Lake Manitoba in 1987 and gave the boat its current name. One year later, the company added a 250 foot self unloader which greatly increased her cargo discharge speed.

The Algomarine arrived Duluth on December 17, 2013 with salt to discharge at the North American Salt dock. I stopped over to visit Julie, enjoy, eventually, some of her fresh baked tarts and watch the cargo discharge close up. She is wearing a genuine Duluth Shipping News sweat shirt.
