Carole Lent took this picture (above) of the Orsula at anchor off the Duluth piers just after the American Century had come under the Bridge and was moving up the inner harbor. The ship came in later that day to load grain at the CHS terminal in Superior where I took the picture below on the next day from the pilot house of the ship.  Although built as the Federal Calumet, she became the Orsula in 1997.

  1. caught this on report on the Maritime Bulletin

    Bulk carrier Orsula probably ran aground in the morning Dec 25 13, reported Great Lakes and Seaway Shipping.

    12/26 – The saltwater vessel Orsula was listed at anchor at Tibbets Point Wednesday morning. Conversations around noon with Seaway Clayton indicated she ran aground. There was no explanation given. The crew was asked to take soundings every half hour and report any changes. Ship inspectors were being brought to check the vessel. Dec 25 night, when the Atlantic Huron passed by, she was requested to check down as there were divers in the water.

    As of 0130 UTC Dec 27 vessel was in the same position, anchored off Tibbets Point Lighthouse, northern Lake Ontario.

    Bulk carrier Orsula, IMO 9110901, dwt 34168, built 1996, flag Marshall Islands, manager FEDNAV LTD, Canada.
