Built in 1968, the Frontenac was named for the French governor of the French possessions in North America in the late 17th century. He established a government at Quebec. She is owned and operated by Canada Steamship Lines of Montreal. On most of her trips to the Twin Ports, she loads iron ore pellets at either the BNSF in Superior or the CN dock in Duluth.
