The Manitowoc was launched as the Paul Thayer in 1973; she became the  Earl W. Oglebay in 1995 when she was purchased by Oglebay Norton. Her name was shortened in 2007 to just Earl W. and the next year, when Oglebay Norton sold they fleet, she  became the Manitowoc. Picture at right taken Wednesday, May 13, 2008 just after she went under the Duluth Aerial Lift Bridge and was on her way to the fuel dock at the Port Terminal before moving over to the BN to load iron ore pellets.
2012
I took the picture just above on April 5, 2012 as she was arriving Duluth to load iron ore pellets at the CN dock in West Duluth.
2005
The Earl W. Oglebay was here on July 17, 2005 to discharge limestone at the Northland Stone dock in Duluth and I had a chance to visit the boat. Above, her self unloader is out over the shore while she is creating the pile you see there. Below, looking at the process from the deck of the boat.
Above, from the pilot house; the self unloader is not seen now as it fully extended over the shore;  it is usually sitting on the deck.
You will note the boat is significantly away from the shore. I found there was another use for the self unloader; it is used to board the boat when the boat is away from the shore. Above, my guide is watching as I slowly back out on the self unloader. Below, almost at the end, I wave good bye with one last picture.
Below, she is departing that day, going to Silver Bay to load iron ore pellets for Cleveland.
2003
Picture above taken Saturday, November 29, 2003. She was in Duluth with limestone loaded at Port Dolomite, Michigan. After discharging that cargo, she went to Silver Bay to load taconite for the Cleveland Bulk Terminal, and then up the Cuyahoga River for 6 miles to the ISG steel plant.
2002
On Christmas Day, 2002, I went along with the Oglebay Norton (now the American Integrity) as she went from Duluth to Silver Bay to discharge coal.  I took these pictures as we departed, slowly moving out beside the Earl W. Oglebay.
