I (Kenneth Newhams, email@example.com) started this web site in 1995 with a few pictures I took with my old film camera. (At right is a picture of the page from March 28, 1997.)
I started the summer, paper edition of the Duluth Shipping News in 1996. It was a 2 page newsletter I distributed in Canal Park three times a week during the summer. It listed ship arrivals and departures for that day, plus pictures and information about the ships. After 20 years, I have have quit publishing that daily paper.
Several years later, I added an online listing of ship arrivals and departures. That is now maintained on line in cooperation with the Maritime Museum Visitors Center and can be seen at: http://www.duluthboats.com/
This site provides a ship arrival and departure time for the next week or so, always unofficial and subject to change. The Maritime Museum staff and I update the site many times a day. Clicking on a ship name will take you to a web page devoted to that ship. (There are over 500 individual ship pages that can also be found by clicking the vessel pages box in the menu at the top.)
From March, 2004 through July, 2009, I wrote a daily column for the Duluth News Tribune. Containing the vessel activity for the day, a picture and a paragraph or two, it appeared on the second page of the paper during the shipping season. Copies of those pictures and articles can be found on Duluth Shipping News at: http://duluthshippingnews.com/category/journal-2004/
The pages continue through journal-2009; listings can be found in the category listings on the left. They are a nice diary of the shipping activities during those years.
For the last several years, I have maintained a live video feed from my office next to the Duluth Aerial Lift Bridge. You can click on the DSN TV link at the top of the page. http://duluthshippingnews.com/dsntv/
