In for grain, out with coal

The Federal Asahi came in from the anchorage on Tuesday afternoon, September 29, 2015 to load grain at CHS 2 in Superior. This is her 7th visit to Duluth Superior since she was built in 2000 and her second trip this season; she was also here in May. Once in the harbor, she passed the Indiana Harbor, on her way out with 68,000 tons of  coal loaded at Midwest Energy Resources for the Detroit Edison power plant in St. Clair, Michigan.

Just thought I’d share a note on the Sundew – the crew brought her over to Bayfield, WI for Applefest, but it was rough water outside Bayfield, and after coming ’round to the outside of City Dock and standing by a few minutes, seems the crew opted for calmer water overnight. She throttled up, turned, and powered across the channel to the lee of Madeline Island, to anchor off La Pointe. I was on the MV Madeline, ferrying back to Madeline with family – just behind Sundew for a bit. Really cool to see the Sundew anchored off La Pointe – a rare site. Welcome, crew…enjoy the Beach Club, Tom’s Burned Down Bar, the Pub Restaurant… and hope to see you around the village in the morning before you head back over.
