Getting ready for the Munson

The Alder returned to the Twin Ports early Friday morning (January 25, 2013) and went right to work clearing the path for the John G. Munson to take when she comes in, later today, to move to Fraser Shipyards for winter layup. Below, at 12:15 in the afternoon, the Munson finally came in (below) and officially closed the shipping season, we assume.

  1. The Munson is headed for scrap, unfortunately.

    • Where did you hear this? The Munson is at Fraser Shipyards for her 5-year survey.

    • where did u hear that? I would consider it a rumor until there is someone who is a good source or who received that information from a good source

    • A good source very close to the fleet told me that the above from ‘RJ’ is a false rumor. The plan is to fit her out next year. She is a valuable boat, with a forward boom, which provides her with advantages in unloading cargo at some docks.

  2. Chris Long says:

Just got mine from Cafe Press. It’s really nice. Going up in my office.

  3. Be the first on your block to have one!

  4. Great pictures Ken! It was a great season, and I’m looking forward to the next season!

  5. My wife says I’m the only person in Muncie, Indiana following the Munson for two solid days. I so appreciate the Shipping News and the Duluth Web cam. Thanks!

    • I feel your pain. My wife says the same thing to me but confided to me that she and both of my boys like the updates.

  6. Thanks as well!!!
That shot of the Munson is perfect. That needs to be framed and go over the fireplace! Engineering in action!

  7. Jill in Alabama says:

Thanks, Ken, for a great season!!
