The Mesabi Miner waited at the Port Terminal since yesterday to load coal at Midwest Energy. This morning, as the Canadian Transport arrived in port to load coal, the Miner left the Port Terminal and is seen above beginning to back up the St. Louis River to a position just behind the Mapleglen (just  below, loading coal at Midwest Energy Resources). She was expected to complete loading coal soon and depart for Belledune, New Brunswick, a port on the Atlantic Ocean just north of Maine.

Hey Paul!
I just can’t wait to see it all! When that bridge comes up and those big boats come gliding in, I’m afraid I’ll be so overcome that I might start crying or something. I hope I don’t disgrace myself and I’d better have some kleenex ready! Listen, you know how we southerners are about our barbecue. I’ll be sure to look for Famous Dave’s. Thanks! I’m going to track Ken down and take HIS picture for a change!

Hi Jill

I sure hope you get up there. To see the ships go under the lift bridge, and be that close, its amazing just how big they are. Also they blow a salute to the bridge and the bridge blows back. It gives you the chills. Enjoy.
If you like barbecue, there is a place close to Canal Park (Cannot remember the street), called FAMOUS DAVE’S, best ribs going.

Hi Paul! Would you believe that my husband and I might be up there around the second week of August? I’ve badgered and begged to see the Lift Bridge and the boats, and he’s about ready to give in! Ken, you are on my list, too. I want to see the face behind the camera! Paul, it would have been fun to hear another southern accent up there. So sorry I will have missed you!

Ken:

I was in the Duluth area a few days this week visiting family. On Wednesday I visited the Canal Park. I was fortunate to see the Walter J. McCarthy depart and the Mapleglen arrive.
It was neat.
I also went into the building were the Duluth Shipping News Office is located, I thought you may be there, just wanted to say hello. The door to the office was locked.
I wasn’t sure where your office was but according to your cam, I figured it was in that area.
Anyway, had a good time, especially seeing the two ships.
Keep up the good work.
