The Metsaborg arrived Duluth early evening on Sunday, May 16, 2010 with the port’s first shipment of wind turbine parts (left). The ship was loaded in Denmark about three weeks ago and came directly to Duluth. Early Monday morning, employees from Lake Superior Warehousing Company began to discharge the cargo. First off were 48 containers, many loaded onto the weather deck of the ship. Gantry crane #1 is seen above pulling one of the containers off the deck. Crane #2 can be partially seen at the upper left picture.![]()

I know of a plant up in Winnipeg and they come through Fargo often. Also we have a plant here making the tower sections.
I think we may not see more shipments of blades coming here by ship. As you mentioned, many companies in this country are getting into the business.
I wonder what the shipments of blades will be like this year. I know of two blade plants here in Iowa and there is talk of another plant being built in Sioux City.
As a Duluthian now living in Colorado and working at the National Renewable Energy Lab, it’s good to see some more wind turbines coming in through Duluth.
Keep up the great work. I check in at least once a day to see how the hometown port is doing.
