Icebreaker returns to Duluth in July

August 2, 2009 · 6 comments

alder20090802_0103 It wasn’t quite so bad that July was a record cold month in Duluth, and it wasn’t so bad that the temperature today on August 2nd is 55 degrees F. But the ICEBREAKING Coast Guard cutter Alder came home from her annual summer ‘vacation’ on Lake Erie this morning a little early. Do they know something we don’t about how cold it really will be? Soon??

Looks like the Alder doesn’t spend as much time in Duluth as the Woodrush and Sundew did. I spent 22 months on the Woodrush and we never spent all that much time away from port.

LOL Ken.

My wife is lucky, every time she comes up it is warm and sunny. Blake and I come up no matter what the weather is.

Keep the blog coming. Great to know what's happening in our northern city of Duluth. Too, we enjoy all the pictures and info about ships and events. Thank you Ken!

Now you all have to remember that it's a few degrees cooler up the shore…we live 12 miles up North Shore Dr so we get some really cool morning temps, but we would not change a thing.
Ken, you pictures are the best!

55 degrees? Bless y'all's hearts. You should all come down to Alabama and get toasty! Hopefully one day I can come up and see your beautiful Lift Bridge and some of those big boats. Ken, your pictures are always great! Thanks, Jill
