Wind turbines for Chile

June 9, 2009 · 3 comments

bbcamazon20090609_6799 One of 40 wind turbine blades built in Grand Forks and going to Chile is hoisted off a a trailer and into the BBC Amazon this morning (June 9, 2009), all this at the Port Terminal in Duluth. You can see another trailer with another blade to be loaded into the ship at the lower left of the picture.

Hopefully it's also not the last vessel of the season for the port terminal.

The U.S. gave up it's leadership in wind technology in the 80's when oil and gas was cheap (again–for a while!) European companies went on to develop the latest technology–which is starting to be manufactured in the USA. We live in a global economy–hopefully we'll export more too!

Why do we buy wind turbine parts from over seas when they are made in our own country?!
