The John J. Boland loaded limestone in Calcite, Michigan. After discharging that cargo here, it has been loading coal at Midwest Energy Resources in Superior. They will take that cargo to Milwaukee, leaving sometime this morning. This is the Boland’s 6th trip here this season. That is about right for this time of year. It has been here between 9 and 13 times for the last several seasons. The Boland started life in 1973 as the Charles E. Wilson. When American Steamship Company’s boat called the John C. Boland was sold to Lower Lakes Towing a couple years ago, their boat called the Charles E. Wilson became the new John C. Boland. Above, it is departing Duluth in December, 2003.
