|Yesterday, I listed 38 ports the Buffalo has visited this season. I talked to the first mate on the boat to ask why they went to so many different places. He said there was no particular reason. If they are in the neighborhood, and a cargo needs to be picked up, they take it. The Buffalo is known as a river boat; it is small enough to get to docks that are up river from Great Lakes ports, particularly the Cuyahoga River in Cleveland. Many of the 38 ports could not handle a Great Lakes 1,000 footer. I asked him what time they would be arriving in Duluth last night, and he told me the Duluth trip was canceled; Silver Bay had a taconite cargo for Cleveland and the Buffalo was in the neighborhood.
