|The Canadian flagged Atlantic Erie is making its fourth appearance this year, loading coal at Midwest Energy Resources in Superior. It loaded grain on the first visit, in April, but has switched to loading coal on the last 3 visits. Last year, it was here 5 times, loading taconite on each visit. The name reflects the vessel’s ability to work both in the Great Lakes and on the ocean. Unlike most Lakers that come to Duluth, this vessel has been to places such as Spain, Holland and many other international ports, all accessible only by ocean going vessels.
